Ghillie Suit Use in Deer Hunting

Ask anyone who has spent any time in the woods and they will tell you that a hunting ghillie suit is the best camouflage.

Long ago, a ghillie was a woodsman in Scotland who was mainly in charge of deer-stalking for the King. Now days, the hunting ghillie suit is used as a disguise for hunters.

Ghillie suits are typically made from synthetics, burlap, or jute and available in different color patterns. The disguises are found from kid size up to triple X sizes to conceal any hunter from their prey. The best quality hunting ghillie suit in the opinion of most hunters is built on a base of BDUs covered with mesh.

Many deer hunting enthusiasts have a personal preference for synthetic ghillie suits, which is also the choice of the US Military. Synthetics are easier to clean, resistant to mildew, and hold up much longer than other materials.

The hunting ghillie suit pattern should be chosen to fit the terrain where you will be deer hunting. The most popular pattern chosen is called woodland. Other choices include mossy, timber, leafy, desert, or color combination.

You can also select either an all in one piece hunting ghillie suit or jacket and pants sold separately. Ideally, a poncho is always a good idea to be prepared for inclement weather conditions while hunkered down in a blind or on the move. The ultra-light synthetic jackets and pants and jacket come highly recommended for deer hunting. The hunting ghillie suit is built on a set of BDUs with optional camouflage patterns. The most sought after ghillie suits are also known in the field as a special ops deer hunting suit.

Deer Hunting Tips
Whitetail deer hunting is the most popular big game animal in the United States. With a great majority of private hunting land being grabbed up by developers in many parts of the country, hunters are forced onto overcrowded public lands. Here are some deer hunting tips to increase your success in landing a monster buck.

* Before heading to the woods, pick up a map of the area to become familiar with the deer hunting grounds. Scout your chosen spot as much as possible prior to your scheduled hunting trip. By seeking out remote areas of the property, you stand a better chance of running across a trophy buck instead of other hunters.

* Hunt as early in the morning as possible even if that means camping out in your hunting ghillie suit all night! The earlier you are on the trail the better so that all the late rising hunters will be running deer straight in your direction.

* The best deer hunting opportunities usually present themselves on days that are stifling hot, extremely cold, or pouring buckets of rain. The deer may assume the hunt has been called off on account of bad weather and you will have the element of surprise in your hunting ghillie suit!

* Know your weapon like the back of your hand. Whether you are deer hunting with a bow, shotgun, or rifle, it pays for you to handle your weapon like second nature. Practice shooting as often as possible to build up your confidence in facing down that trophy buck from any angle that may present itself.

* One of the most important tips anyone can give you is to have a blast when you go deer hunting! It is a great opportunity to take a kid along and teach them the basic skills of survival. Our final deer hunting tip is when you heed the call of the wild, be sure to suit up first in a hunting ghillie suit to keep the big bucks inf your trail!
